Resident screen and calls
Élise can show a simple interface on the resident’s TV, plugged directly into the Raspberry Pi or mini-PC. The resident has no remote to use and no button to press.
The screen is installed by the Raspberry Pi image and the Ubuntu script as soon as Tailscale is paired. It is not available with Docker Compose alone.
The screen panel is currently in French; its labels are given below with a translation.
Pair the TV
Section titled “Pair the TV”- Plug the TV in over HDMI (or DisplayPort when the hardware allows) and, optionally, a USB webcam.
- In the resident’s profile, open Écran et appels (Screen and calls) → Installer et associer l’écran → Associer automatiquement la TV branchée à cette machine (pair the TV connected to this machine).
The screen uses a restricted identity: no family account is signed in on the TV.
What caregivers can show
Section titled “What caregivers can show”- up to 20 messages, rotating in the top banner;
- appointments, with a pictogram (care, hairdresser, family, meal, activity, walk, transport);
- photos, audio and videos (100 MB per file);
- live channels (ARTE, RMC Life, RMC Story, RMC Découverte), YouTube playlists and HTTPS streams;
- the volume and a schedule.
Video calls
Section titled “Video calls”Calls use Jitsi. First record the resident’s consent in the settings, then set each relative’s permissions. Automatic answer is off by default.
- An automatic call is announced five seconds before it opens, with a calm full-screen view and a melody whose volume rises gradually.
- A manual call waits thirty seconds. A USB button that sends
SpaceorF13accepts, declines or hangs up. - Without a camera or microphone at the resident’s end, the call is receive-only.
- No call is recorded.
Turning the TV on
Section titled “Turning the TV on”Élise uses native Linux CEC: it registers as an “EliseOS” player, asks the TV to power on and becomes the active source. Power-on is reasserted every thirty seconds while the screen should be awake. Reprendre la TV (take back the TV) forces a new attempt immediately.
As a fallback, Élise can wake a networked TV (Wake-on-LAN) or go through its Home Assistant integration. In Écran et appels → TV sur le réseau local (TV on the local network), run Rechercher les TV (search for TVs) and pair the right one.
The TV must have CEC and power-on by external device enabled, and stay powered in standby. Check wake-up after a night in standby on each model you choose.

Section titled “Diagnostics”systemctl status lightdm elise-screen-agentjournalctl -u elise-screen-agent -n 50
