Overview

Élise OS is a free home system that helps a family support someone who lives at home: an older person, someone living with cognitive impairment, or someone losing autonomy.

Discreet sensors describe daily life in the home (a door opens, someone is present, the temperature drops). Élise learns the home’s routines, sums up the day in a caregiver space and flags what is out of the ordinary. The resident’s TV becomes a simple screen for messages, appointments and video calls.

Everything runs inside the home, on a Raspberry Pi 4/5 or a small Ubuntu server. There is no Élise cloud; relatives connect remotely through the family’s private Tailscale network.

  • The caregiver space: the day at a glance, alerts with their history, the journal, visits and appointments.
  • The mobile app: the same information, automatic discovery of the hub on the Wi-Fi, and notifications that deliberately say very little.
  • The resident screen: the TV driven over HDMI-CEC, messages, weather, programmes and Jitsi calls from approved relatives.
  • Routine awareness: rules confirmed by the family, then a local model that learns for at least 14 complete days before it counts.
  • Cameras, optional: a live check after consent, isolated from analysis.

Under the hood, Élise builds on Home Assistant, Zigbee2MQTT, Mosquitto and PostgreSQL. The family only sees the Élise interface.

Élise OS is released under the AGPL-3.0-only licence. Source code, images and releases are public on GitHub.
