Backups and restore

Backups contain the Élise database. They are encrypted: by default Élise refuses to create a plaintext backup.

Élise uses age. Generate a key pair on your computer, not on the hub:

Fenêtre de terminal
age-keygen -o elise-backup.key

Keep elise-backup.key somewhere safe, outside the home. Copy the public key (age1…) into /etc/elise/elise.env:

Fenêtre de terminal
MICHEL_BACKUP_RECIPIENT=age1…
Fenêtre de terminal
elise backup

Archives are written to /var/lib/elise/backups/. Copy them off the hub regularly.

Fenêtre de terminal
elise restore /var/lib/elise/backups/elise-YYYY.tar.age --confirm

A restore overwrites changes made after the backup. Test your procedure on an isolated instance before relying on it.

Camera alert images are excluded from backups and deleted after 24 hours.
