SCOPING NOTE · FIRST PILOT

One apartment. Practical questions.

Prepare a first trial of the complete OS: household sensors, caregiver space, mobile access, the resident’s television and video calling.

What we want to understand.

The aim is to assess whether the complete Élise experience can support independent living: give relatives useful context, simplify the resident’s television and enable remote action without intruding on their privacy.

  • Can the system be installed and maintained in an understandable way?
  • Does the information genuinely help relatives decide what to do?
  • Does the person receiving support understand and accept how the system works?

The pilot aims to produce documented observations. It does not claim to demonstrate medical benefits or fewer accidents.

Move forward in stages.

The Docker foundation and interfaces exist. Sensors, HDMI-CEC, remote access, mobile use and video are now being brought together into an installation protocol to test with participants.

  1. 01

    Define the framework

Agree on the home, participants, scenarios, privacy choices and conditions for ending the trial.

    Deliverable: trial protocol

  2. 02

    Install and verify

Deploy Élise on a Raspberry Pi or mini PC, pair the sensors, connect the television through HDMI-CEC, and verify remote access, mobile use and video calls.

    Deliverable: installation and compatibility report

  3. 03

    Observe use

Run defined scenarios, gather feedback and review useful, missed or unnecessary alerts.

Deliverable: trial log and user feedback

  4. 04

    Report and decide

Share findings and limitations, then identify necessary changes before considering a larger trial.

    Deliverable: pilot report and recommendations

Measure before making promises.

These criteria are proposed for the protocol. No baseline values or field results are available at this stage.

What support would make possible.

A budget will be developed from the protocol and selected equipment. No amount, awarded grant or co-funding is being announced.

  1. An equipped home

Supplement equipment already received from partners where needed and prepare the home for evaluation of everyday use.

  2. Time for the trial

Scenario preparation, support, maintenance and observation follow-up.

  3. Documented evaluation

Feedback collection, analysis of limitations and reusable documentation.

Hardware support received from lead partner NodOn, alongside ThirdReality and SMLIGHT. Life Plus brings guidance on autonomy and resident privacy. Further needs include continued pilot work and a suitable venue.

Preparing for trials with families.

People and consent
Clear information, authorised relative selection, the ability to withdraw consent and agreed conditions for stopping before the trial begins.
Data and access
Local processing, private remote access and minimal external notification content. Pilot retention periods and access permissions will be defined in its protocol.
Product limitations
No diagnosis, safety guarantee or replacement of human help. Outages and insufficient data must be distinguished from lack of activity.
Launch conditions
Legal structure, funding eligibility, home, participants, schedule and budget remain to be defined. The project is currently led independently.
